==Overview==  
The Honorable John Keyes, born on March 24, 1787, in Westford, Massachusetts, served as the twelfth Master of Corinthian Lodge in 1821. His extensive service in Masonic, civic, and legislative roles marked him as a leader of high character and determination, deeply influencing both the Lodge and his community.

==Early Masonic Career==  
Admitted to Corinthian Lodge on June 22, 1812, Keyes quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Senior Warden in 1814 and 1815, Junior Warden in 1820, and Master in 1821. His commitment to Masonry extended beyond the Lodge; he was an active member and for many years served as King of the Concord Royal Arch Chapter. He later held significant offices in the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, including Junior Grand Warden from 1824 to 1826 and Senior Grand Warden in 1827 and 1828. Keyes was instrumental in the construction of Masonic Hall, officiating at its dedication.

==Professional and Civic Life==  
Keyes entered Dartmouth College in 1805 and graduated in 1809. He studied law under John Abbot of Westford and joined the Middlesex Bar in 1812. He moved to Concord, where he taught school in 1811 and 1812, and began practicing law with Brother John L. Tuttle. In 1813, Keyes was appointed Postmaster of Concord, a role he held until Van Buren’s administration. The same year, he became County Treasurer, serving until 1837. His political career included roles as a delegate to the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention in 1820, a member of the State Legislature in 1821 and 1822, and a State Senator from 1824 to 1829. He returned to the Legislature in 1832 and 1833, at times presiding as Speaker.

Additionally, Keyes held prominent positions in local institutions, serving as a Director of the Concord Bank, the Mill-Dam Corporation, and as a Trustee of the Middlesex Institution for Savings. At the time of his death, he was President of the Middlesex Mutual Fire Insurance Company.

Keyes was known for his integrity, energy, and resolute character, which garnered both respect and opposition. ==Death and Family==  
John Keyes passed away on August 29, 1844, at the age of 57 from bilious colic. He married Ann S. Shepard on November 26, 1816, and left behind three sons: John Shepard (born September 19, 1821), Brother Joseph Boyden (born May 13, 1829), and Brother George (born March 12, 1832). Keyes's enduring influence remains a significant part of Corinthian Lodge's history.
