Belonged to One of the Prominent Families of Concord, Mass, and Was a Prominent Mason.

CONCORD, Mass, May 3—William F. Hurd died at his residence on Lowell road this evening of heart trouble. He had been confined to his house for about a month. The funeral will be held at the residence Saturday at 3 p.m.

William Frederick Hurd was the son of Isaac Hurd Jr. He was born in Concord, Mass, Feb 12, 1826, and had resided there a greater part of his life. The Hurd family is one of the oldest and most influential in Concord.

Mr. Hurd owned considerable real estate in Concord, which he had accumulated by careful investments. He was a 32nd degree Mason and the oldest Mason in Concord. He joined Corinthian lodge in 1854. He was a past master of that lodge, the oldest with one exception, Benjamin Tolman.

On Feb 17, 1873, Mr. Hurd, with D. Goodwin Lang, Henry F. Smith, Edward C. Damon and Henry J. Hosmer took the first steps which resulted in the foundation of Walden Royal Arch chapter. He was elected high priest and served in that capacity in 1873, 1874, and 1875. He was the oldest past high priest. He also joined the Knights Templars, but did not take any active part with them.

In 1882 he bought the brick building adjacent to his residence on Lowell road, had it remodeled and fitted up for the use of Corinthian lodge and Walden chapter.

Mr. Hurd was twice married; his first wife was Sarah J., daughter of Reuben Rice, the second wife Mrs. M. Augusta Simonds. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. William H. Brown, and a son.

Special meetings of the lodge and chapter have been called to take action on his death.
